Australia's Biggest City. Sydney is the most populous city in Australia with a population of about 5.6 million people. It's located on the east coast of Australia and is the capital of New South Wales.

Surrounded by Water. Sydney Harbour is at the heart of the city, and Sydney extends about 80 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean in the east to the Blue Mountains in the west. The city is wonderfully nestled between water and mountains.

Many Neighbourhoods. Greater Sydney spreads across 658 different suburbs spread over 33 local government areas, making it a huge metropolis with lots of distinct communities.

Fancy Nicknames. Sydney is called the Emerald City and the Harbour City because of its beautiful water and natural surroundings. People who live there are called Sydneysiders.
