Soaring skyscraper city. Taipei is the capital and a special municipality of Taiwan in Northern Taiwan, packed with modern buildings and innovation alongside traditional culture.
Built on an ancient lake. Most of Taipei sits on the Taipei Basin, which was an old lakebed thousands of years ago, making the ground in this area special and distinct.
Rivers and valleys surround it. Two rivers called the Keelung and Xindian rivers flow through valleys around the city and join together to form the Tamsui River on Taipei's western border.
Located in the north. Taipei is about 25 kilometers southwest of Keelung, a port city even further north, making Taipei a gateway between the coast and Taiwan's interior.
