Super big city. Tashkent is the largest city in all of Central Asia, with over 3.1 million people living there. That makes it way bigger than most other cities in that part of the world.
Ancient trade hub. For thousands of years, Tashkent sat right on the Silk Road, the network of trade routes that connected the East and West. Merchants, goods, and ideas flowed through this crossroads constantly.
Meeting of cultures. Because so many people from different places passed through Tashkent, the city became a blend of many cultures, religions, and traditions all mixed together in one special place.
In northeastern Uzbekistan. Tashkent is located in the northern part of Uzbekistan, which is a country in Central Asia, nestled between mountains and deserts.
