Ancient Wonder. The Temple of Artemis was so grand and famous that it was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. People traveled from far away just to see its amazing marble columns and artwork.
Destroyed and Rebuilt. The temple was destroyed and rebuilt many times throughout ancient history. Each time it was damaged, the people of Ephesus worked hard to restore it because it was so important to them.
Located in Ephesus. The temple stood in Ephesus, a bustling ancient Greek city in what is now Turkey near a place called Selçuk. Thousands of people visited this holy site to worship the goddess Artemis.
Final Destruction. In 401 AD, the last version of this incredible temple was destroyed and never rebuilt again. Today, only scattered foundation stones and broken fragments remain for archaeologists to study.
