Impossibly Long Tail. Thresher sharks have tails that can be as long as the rest of their entire body! They use this incredible tail like a whip to slap and stun fish, making them easier to catch and eat.

Master Hunters. These sharks are incredible hunters that swing their tails through schools of fish at high speeds. The impact of the tail can injure or knock out prey, giving the thresher shark an amazing hunting advantage.

Ocean Travelers. Thresher sharks live in oceans all around the world, from warm tropical waters to cooler temperate regions. You can find them in pretty much every ocean, making them one of the most widespread sharks.

Three Different Species. There are three species of thresher sharks, and they all belong to the same genus called Alopias. Each one is perfectly adapted to hunt in its own ocean home.

Picky Eaters. Thresher sharks mainly hunt smaller fish and squid, using their famous tail-whipping technique to catch them. They are not a threat to humans and prefer much smaller prey.
