Toco Toucan

Massive colorful beak. The toco toucan's beak is so huge and bright yellow-orange that it looks almost impossible to carry, but it's actually hollow inside and surprisingly light, making it easy for the bird to move around.

Striking black and white style. These birds have jet-black feathers on most of their body, with white patches on their throat and chest, plus red undertail-coverts that flash when they fly, making them super easy to spot.

South American wanderers. Toco toucans live across a huge stretch of South America from the Guianas all the way down to northern Argentina and Uruguay, and they're spreading into new areas as their range keeps expanding southward.

Flexible home dwellers. Unlike other toucan species that need thick, continuous forests, toco toucans are adaptable and thrive in semi-open spaces like the Brazilian cerrado grasslands, gallery forests, and the massive Pantanal wetlands.

Record-breaking size. The toco toucan is the largest toucan species in the entire toucan family, making it a true giant among its cousins.
