Two-way connection. Videotelephony uses both audio and video so people can hear AND see each other while they talk, making conversations feel more personal than just a phone call.

Distance doesn't matter. You can video call someone across the street or on the other side of the world, and it happens instantly over the internet or telephone lines.

Many names, same idea. Videotelephony is also called video chat, video calling, videoconferencing, or telepresence, depending on whether you're talking to one person or a whole group.

Real-time and live. The video and audio happen at the exact same time, so there's no delay between when you speak and when the other person hears you (usually).

Works for groups too. Videoconferencing lets many people join in at once, which is super useful for classrooms, meetings, and team games played together online.
