A sacred Buddhist temple. Wat Arun is one of Thailand's most famous temples, sitting on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The name 'Arun' comes from a Hindu god who represents the rays of the rising sun.

A tall, pointy spire. The temple's most eye-catching feature is its distinctive prang, which is a tall ornamental spire that rises dramatically into the sky. This famous spire was built during the 1800s under the rule of two kings named Rama II and Rama III.

Very ancient roots. While Wat Arun looks modern with its impressive 19th-century spire, the temple itself existed as far back as the 1600s. It has been a spiritual place in Bangkok for hundreds of years.

Glows in the morning light. The temple is especially beautiful at sunrise, when the sun's rays hit the spire and make it seem to glow. This connection to the rising sun inspired the temple's name and why visitors love seeing it at dawn.
