What is it?. A wormhole is a theoretical tunnel or passage that could connect two different points in space and time, almost like a cosmic shortcut through the universe. It's based on solutions to Einstein's equations, which describe how gravity works.

Tunnel through space. Imagine folding a piece of paper in half and poking a hole through both layers at once, creating a shortcut between distant points. A wormhole would work similarly, potentially connecting faraway corners of the universe without having to travel the long way around.
