The Yuan Dynasty

Kublai Khan's Kingdom. Kublai Khan, a grandson of the famous Mongol conqueror Genghis Khan, founded the Yuan dynasty in 1271. He was the first foreign ruler to conquer all of China and unite it under Mongol control.

Mongol Dominance. The Yuan dynasty was led by Mongols, a people from the steppes of Central Asia who were known as skilled horsemen and warriors. Even though they ruled over millions of Chinese people, the Mongols kept their own customs and leadership structure.

Chinese Rule. The Yuan dynasty lasted about 100 years, from 1271 to 1368 AD. It fit between two other famous Chinese dynasties: the Song dynasty before it and the Ming dynasty after it, making it an important chapter in Chinese history.

Vast Territory. The Yuan dynasty controlled a huge area that stretched across China and beyond. Kublai Khan's rule connected different parts of Asia and helped trade routes flourish, bringing goods and ideas from distant places to China.

Cultural Blend. The Mongol rulers blended their own traditions with Chinese culture, creating something new. They supported art, literature, and science, though they eventually faced challenges that led to their fall in 1368.
