Cool Facts
Massive raptor dinosaur. Achillobator was one of the largest dromaeosaurs ever discovered, a family of clever predators known for their sharp, curved claws on their feet.
Ancient Mongolia resident. This dinosaur lived between 96 and 89 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period in what is now Mongolia, a time when deserts and rocky badlands covered the land.
Found in 1989. Scientists discovered the first bones of Achillobator during a Mongolian-Russian field expedition, and they carefully studied and described the fossils ten years later in 1999.
Hunter with attitude. Like other dromaeosaurs, Achillobator was built for speed and power, using its large size and deadly claws to hunt other dinosaurs in its ecosystem.
Biggest of its kind. Achillobator holds the title as the largest dromaeosaurid ever found in the Bayan Shireh Formation where it was discovered.
