Cool Facts
Wakes you up. The main job of an alarm clock is to get you out of bed at the time you set it for, whether that's for school, work, or an important event.
Makes noise or light. Most alarm clocks use sound to wake you, but some flash bright lights or vibrate instead to get your attention.
Smart sleep sensing. Some fancy alarm clocks have sensors that can tell when you're in light sleep versus deep sleep, so they wake you at the best moment and you don't feel as groggy.
Extra dial or hand. On old-fashioned round alarm clocks, there's an extra hand that points to the time when your alarm will go off, so you know exactly when it's set for.
Auto shut-off button. You can press a button to turn off the alarm sound, and if you forget to turn it off, most clocks stop automatically after a while anyway.
