Three Grand Slams. Arthur Ashe won three of tennis's biggest tournaments as a singles player, which put him among the sport's greats. He also won two Grand Slam titles in doubles, showing he was skilled at both individual and team play.

Historic Wimbledon win. In 1975, Ashe became the only Black man ever to win the Wimbledon singles title, one of tennis's most famous and prestigious tournaments. This victory was groundbreaking and inspired countless young players.

Davis Cup pioneer. Ashe was the first Black player selected to represent the United States on the Davis Cup team, which is a major international tennis competition. This was a huge milestone in breaking down barriers in professional sports.

Australian and US Open. Beyond Wimbledon, Ashe also claimed singles titles at the US Open and Australian Open, making him the only Black man to achieve this feat across all three of these Grand Slam tournaments.

Retired young. Despite his incredible success, Ashe retired from professional tennis in 1980 while still in his prime. He then focused his energy on other important causes and contributions to society.
