Australian Hunter. Australovenator was a megaraptoran theropod dinosaur that lived in Australia during the Late Cretaceous period. It is the most complete predatory dinosaur ever found in Australia, discovered from the Winton Formation.

Partial Remains. Scientists found partial cranial and postcranial remains (skull and body bones) of Australovenator in 2009. Even though the bones were incomplete, they told researchers a lot about how this dinosaur looked and hunted.

Smart Predator. Australovenator was a megaraptoran, a group of theropods known for being intelligent hunters with sharp claws and excellent senses. These dinosaurs hunted with strategy and skill, making them some of the most dangerous predators of their time.

Ancient Australian Landscape. Australovenator lived in Australia about 105 million years ago during the Cretaceous period, when the continent had a different climate and different animals than today. Its fossils help us understand what ancient Australia was like.

Family Connections. Scientists think Australovenator might be related to Fukuiraptor, another megaraptoran from Asia, or possibly a close member of the Megaraptoridae family. This connection helps show how predatory dinosaurs were spread across the world.
