Huge frozen giant. Baffin Island is so enormous that it covers an area of about 507,000 square kilometers, making it the fifth-largest island in the entire world and the biggest island in Canada.

Super cold and remote. The island sits way up north near the Arctic Circle, where winters are brutally cold and most of the landscape stays frozen throughout the year.

Home to hardy people. About 13,000 people live on Baffin Island, mostly Inuit (also called Inuinnait) who have adapted amazingly well to the harsh Arctic environment for thousands of years.

Capital city location. Iqaluit, the capital of Nunavut territory, sits on the southern tip of the island and is the main hub for life in this Arctic region.

Arctic animal paradise. Baffin Island's waters and lands are home to polar bears, walruses, narwhals, beluga whales, and millions of seabirds that thrive in the cold northern ocean.
