Nectar sipper supreme. The bananaquit is a small, active bird that drinks nectar from flowers like a hummingbird does. It's one of the few birds that loves bananas as much as it loves flower juice.

Mystery of family. Scientists weren't sure which bird family the bananaquit belonged to for a long time. It wasn't until modern genetics came along in the 21st century that scientists figured out it's actually part of the tanager family.

All over the warm Americas. You can find bananaquits in the warmer parts of North and South America, from Mexico all the way down through Central America and into South America. They're generally common wherever they live.

Super speedy and active. These birds are constantly on the move, zipping around flowers and fruit to find food. Their small size and quick movements make them fun to watch in tropical gardens and forests.
