BASE stands for four things. The word BASE is an acronym: Buildings, Antennas, Spans (bridges), and Earth (cliffs). These are the four types of fixed objects that BASE jumpers leap from.

Parachutes slow the fall. After jumping from a tall object, jumpers freefall through the air for a short time before deploying their parachute. The parachute opens up and catches the air, slowing their descent so they can land safely on the ground.

Wingsuit BASE jumping. Some BASE jumpers wear special wingsuits that catch the air and let them glide through the sky like birds before opening their parachute. This makes the experience feel more like flying than regular jumping.

Requires bravery and skill. BASE jumping is one of the most daring sports in the world because jumpers have only one parachute and must jump from objects that don't move, unlike airplanes. Jumpers train hard and practice safety procedures to stay protected.
