Beam Bridges. The simplest bridges use horizontal beams supported by columns on each end, kind of like a plank across a stream. They work great for short distances but get wobbly if they have to stretch too far.
Arch Bridges. These curved bridges push weight outward and downward, which means they're super strong and can span really long distances. Many old stone bridges from hundreds of years ago are still standing because arches are so sturdy.
Suspension Bridges. These bridges hang from giant cables strung between tall towers, and the deck dangles below. Famous ones like the Golden Gate Bridge can sway in the wind but stay safe because of their clever design.
Weight and Foundations. Every bridge needs a solid foundation that transfers all the weight down into the ground, kind of like how your legs support your body. Engineers carefully design these bases so the bridge doesn't sink or shift over time.
Different Kinds. Bridges carry all sorts of things: cars and trucks on road bridges, trains on railroad bridges, and people on pedestrian bridges. Some even carry water through pipes or cables for electricity across canyons.
