Oldest continuous culture. Aboriginal Australians arrived in Australia between 50,000 and 65,000 years ago from Maritime Southeast Asia. This makes them one of the oldest continuous cultures in the world.

Six colonies unite. On January 1, 1901, six self-governing British colonies joined together to create the Commonwealth of Australia. This federation transformed separate colonies into one nation.

Ancient origins. The first ancestors of Aboriginal Australians traveled by sea from Maritime Southeast Asia thousands of years before Europeans ever arrived. They developed unique cultures, languages, and ways of living across the Australian continent.

From colonies to democracy. Australia started as British colonies but gradually became more independent. Today it is a multicultural democracy where people from all over the world live together.
