Stretchy special formula. Bubble gum is made differently from regular chewing gum because it has extra elastic ingredients that let it stretch way out without tearing when you blow air into it.

Bubble-blowing physics. When you blow air into bubble gum, the gum stretches thinner and thinner until it forms a giant dome. If you keep blowing, it eventually pops with a satisfying snap.

Invented in the 1900s. The first successful bubble gum was created in 1928 by Walter Diemer, a candy company employee who accidentally discovered the perfect recipe while experimenting with gum formulas.

Pink is traditional. Most bubble gum is pink because early bubble gum makers used red dye, and when it faded slightly, it turned into a peachy-pink color that became the classic look.

Challenging to blow. It takes practice and the right technique to blow a perfect bubble, since you need to blow gently and keep the gum centered in your mouth so it expands evenly.
