Carambola (Star Fruit)

Looks like a star. When you cut a carambola crosswise, the ridges on its sides create a beautiful five-pointed star shape, which is why people call it star fruit.

Native to Southeast Asia. Carambola trees originally grew wild in tropical Southeast Asia, but now farmers grow them in warm places all around the world.

Eat the whole thing. Unlike many fruits, you can eat the entire carambola raw, skin and all, though people also cook it, turn it into juice, or use it as a fancy garnish on dishes.

Tree grows everywhere tropical. The Averrhoa carambola tree loves hot, wet climates, so you can find it thriving in Southeast Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and many other tropical regions.

Sweet and tangy taste. Carambola has a crisp, juicy texture and tastes like a mix of sweet and sour flavors, making it refreshing on its own or in drinks and desserts.
