Cool Facts
Two hulls instead of one. A catamaran has two parallel hulls of equal size running along both sides. This wide double design makes it much harder to tip over than a regular single-hulled boat, so it doesn't need heavy ballast weight to stay balanced.
Rides smoother in waves. The catamaran's wider stance spreads out the force from waves and rolling motion. This means passengers experience less bouncing and swaying compared to boats with just one hull.
Uses less power to move. Two hulls combined create less water resistance than one big hull of the same length. This means catamarans need smaller engines or can sail faster with the same amount of power, making them very efficient.
Creates smaller wakes. Because catamarans cut through water differently than regular boats, they leave behind smaller and gentler waves. This is better for the water and creatures living near the shore.
