Cool Facts
Super Spicy Heat. Cayenne peppers rank between 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units, which means they're hot enough to make your mouth tingle but not the absolute hottest peppers out there.
Long and Skinny. These peppers grow to be 10 to 25 centimeters long and are quite thin, making them look like little curved sticks hanging down from the plant.
Mostly Red Color. Cayenne peppers are usually bright red when they're ripe, though they start out green, with a somewhat bumpy, rippled skin that gives them texture.
Hangs, Not Stands. Unlike some pepper plants where peppers point upward, cayenne peppers dangle downward from the bush like tiny ornaments.
Flavor Powerhouse. Cooks around the world use cayenne pepper as a spice to add bold, spicy heat to soups, stews, curries, and all kinds of dishes.
