The Green Screen Secret. Filmmakers shoot actors in front of a bright green (or sometimes blue) background, then use special technology to make that colored background invisible so a different background can appear behind the person instead.

Used Everywhere. You'll see chroma key in weather forecasts, video games, movies, music videos, and even Zoom calls when people use virtual backgrounds.

One Color Rule. The trick only works if the actor or object being filmed doesn't wear or have the same color as the background, or that part will accidentally disappear too.

Why Green or Blue?. Green and blue backgrounds are most popular because human skin doesn't come in those colors, so the camera can easily tell the difference between the person and the background.

Post-Production Magic. After filming, editors use computers to remove the colored background and insert a new scene, making it look like the actor was filmed somewhere completely different.
