Home to coral reefs. The Coral Sea is famous for its stunning coral reefs that stretch for thousands of kilometers along Australia's northeast coast. These reefs are some of the most colorful and diverse ecosystems on Earth.

Millions of creatures. Thousands of species of fish, sea turtles, sharks, and other animals live in the Coral Sea's warm waters. The reefs provide homes and food for fish in almost every color you can imagine.

Protected waters. Much of the Coral Sea is now protected by marine parks so people cannot damage the coral or overfish the area. This helps keep the ecosystem healthy for future generations.

Historic battle site. During World War II, the Battle of the Coral Sea took place here in 1942 as a major naval conflict between Japan and the United States and Australia. It was one of the first naval battles where the ships never actually saw each other.

Stretches 2,000 km. The Coral Sea extends along Australia's coast for about 2,000 kilometers, making it one of the largest marine regions in the world.
