Ancient milk production. People started dairy farming way back around 7,000 years ago in Europe and Africa, making it one of the oldest types of farming in the world.
Hand milking era. Before the 1900s, farmers milked cows by hand on small farms, which was hard work that had to happen twice every single day.
Machines changed everything. In the early 1900s, big farms invented rotary parlors and milking pipelines that let workers milk lots of cows much faster and easier than ever before.
Robot milkers arrive. By the 1990s, automatic milking systems were invented that could milk cows without humans having to do much work at all.
