Dromaeosaurus

Lived long ago. Dromaeosaurus roamed North America during the Late Cretaceous period, between 80 and 69 million years ago, in what is now Alberta, Canada and the western United States.

Built tough. Unlike other dromaeosaurs of similar size such as Velociraptor, Dromaeosaurus was heavily built and more powerfully constructed, making it a sturdier hunter.

Named the family. Dromaeosaurus is so important that scientists named the entire Dromaeosaur family after it. These dinosaurs are known for being clever, fast predators with special curved claws.

Discovered in 1922. Scientists William Diller Matthew and Barnum Brown first described Dromaeosaurus albertensis using fossils found in places like the Hell Creek and Dinosaur Park Formations.

Possible cousin. Dakotaraptor is thought to be Dromaeosaurus's closest living relative, sharing similar body plans and hunting strategies.
