Eotyrannus

Early tyrant lizard. Eotyrannus was one of the first tyrannosauroids, a group that would later include the massive T. rex. Its name means 'early tyrant lizard' because it lived millions of years before the more famous tyrannosaurs showed up.

British island discovery. Scientists found Eotyrannus fossils on the Isle of Wight off the southwest coast of England. These bones were buried in ancient clay beds that were once part of a warm, tropical forest during the Early Cretaceous period.

Young dinosaur bones. The fossils discovered in 2001 came from a juvenile or young adult Eotyrannus, not a fully grown adult. Paleontologists found pieces of its skull, spine, and leg bones all in one spot.

Plant debris burial. The dinosaur's remains were found in a clay bed made of decaying plants, which suggests it died near or fell into an area filled with plant material. This environment helped preserve the bones for over 130 million years.
