A titanosaur giant. Futalognkosaurus was a massive long-necked dinosaur that belonged to the titanosaur family, some of the biggest land animals ever to walk Earth.
Vegetarian dinosaur. This dinosaur was herbivorous, meaning it ate only plants. Its long neck helped it reach tall trees and vegetation that other dinosaurs couldn't reach.
Tropical Patagonia home. Futalognkosaurus lived in what is now Argentina during a warm, wet tropical time period nearly 93 million years ago, when Patagonia was much warmer than it is today.
Ancient climate clues. Scientists found fossilized fish and leaf debris where Futalognkosaurus fossils were discovered, which tells us the region had a lush, tropical climate with rivers and streams.
Late Cretaceous era. This dinosaur lived during the Cretaceous Period, specifically in a time stage called the Coniacian, which was about 85 to 93 million years ago.
