Knife-like teeth. Hyaenodon's name means 'hyena-tooth,' and its sharp, blade-shaped teeth were perfect for slicing through meat. These teeth made it one of the most dangerous hunters of its time.

Lived on two continents. Hyaenodon roamed across Eurasia and North America, adapting to different lands and climates. This wide range shows how successful this predator was at surviving in diverse environments.

Ancient super survivor. From about 38 to 11 million years ago, Hyaenodon dominated the landscape for over 26 million years. That's an incredibly long time for one genus to exist and thrive.

Mystery of its origins. Scientists believe Hyaenodon probably evolved in Asia from an earlier predator called Propterodon. Over time, it spread to other continents and became even more successful.

Lost to time. Hyaenodon disappeared during the Late Miocene period, going extinct along with many other prehistoric mammals. We know about it only through fossils that scientists have studied.
