Metal disc magic. Gongs are circular, flat or bowl-shaped instruments made of metal that come in all sorts of sizes. When you strike one with a mallet, it produces that famous crashing, ringing sound that seems to go on and on.

Born in Southeast Asia. Gongs originated in Southeast Asia and are still used in musical traditions across Southeast and East Asia today. They are deeply connected to the music and culture of countries like Indonesia, Thailand, and China.

Solo or set sounds. A single gong can be played alone to create a dramatic crashing effect, or gongs can be played in tuned sets that work together like a team. When played as a set, they produce beautiful bell-like tones instead of just crashes.

Striking creates vibrations. To play a gong, you strike it with a special mallet, and the vibrations of the metal create sound waves that travel through the air. Different parts of the gong can produce different tones depending on where you hit it.
