Henry Hudson

Sailed for exploration. Henry Hudson was an English sea explorer who sailed during the early 1600s, searching for new routes to Asia by traveling through the icy waters of the far north.

Explored frozen lands. He sailed to what is now Canada and the Northeastern United States, discovering and mapping areas that had never been properly explored by Europeans before.

Named after him. Hudson Bay, the Hudson Strait, and the Hudson River were all named in his honor because of his important explorations and discoveries in those areas.

Brave expeditions. Hudson made multiple voyages to the Arctic, searching for a faster water route called the Northwest Passage that would help ships travel to Asia more quickly.

Navigator and leader. He was known as a skilled navigator who could read maps, use instruments, and lead crews through dangerous and unfamiliar waters filled with ice and storms.
