Stories come alive. Kathak dancers tell stories from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata using only their bodies, faces, and movements. The word 'Kathak' comes from 'kathakaar,' which means 'the one who tells a story.'

Born from bards. Long ago in northern India, traveling storytellers called Kathakaar would entertain people by mixing dance, songs, and music together. This traveling tradition eventually became the beautiful Kathak dance form we see today.

Twirls and fast footwork. Modern Kathak dancers combine two skills equally: telling stories through graceful hand movements and facial expressions, plus showing off incredible technical footwork and spinning moves. This mix makes every performance both magical and athletically impressive.

A living tradition. Kathak remains one of the eight major classical dance forms of India, meaning it's officially recognized as one of the most important dance traditions in the country. Dancers still perform it today just as it has been performed for thousands of years.
