Spoken by millions. Korean is the official language of both North Korea and South Korea, and about 81 million people around the world speak it as their main language.

Special alphabet. Korean uses an alphabet called Hangul, which was created in the 1400s to be easier to learn than other writing systems that people in Korea had used before.

Growing worldwide. Since 2000, Korean culture like K-pop music, movies, and TV shows have become super popular globally, making more people interested in learning the language.

Two names, one language. In South Korea, the language is called Hangugeo, but in North Korea it is called Chosŏnŏ, even though it is basically the same language with small differences.

Sound and style. Korean has unique sounds that don't exist in English, and the way people speak can change depending on who they are talking to and how polite they want to be.
