Krak des Chevaliers

Massive stone fortress. Krak des Chevaliers is one of the most important preserved medieval castles in the world, with thick walls and towers that have survived for centuries in Syria.

Home to the Knights Hospitaller. In 1142, the castle was given to the Knights Hospitaller, a powerful order of warrior monks who defended the castle and lived there for over 130 years.

Built in layers of history. The castle was first used by Kurdish troops in the 11th century, then taken over by the Knights, and finally reconquered by Muslim forces in 1271.

Incredible fortress design. The castle features multiple rings of defensive walls, towers, and clever designs that made it nearly impossible for enemies to attack successfully.
