Scottish lake legend. The Loch Ness Monster, nicknamed Nessie, is said to live in Loch Ness, a deep, dark lake in the Scottish Highlands. People have told stories about it for generations, but it's part of Scottish folklore rather than proven fact.

Long neck and humps. According to eyewitness descriptions, Nessie is supposedly large with a long neck and one or more bumps or humps sticking out of the water. People who claim to have seen it describe something like a prehistoric plesiosaur.

Famous in 1933. The Loch Ness Monster became world famous in 1933 when a newspaper published a photo of what people said was the creature. This sparked huge interest around the globe in hunting for Nessie.

No solid proof yet. Even though people have taken many photographs and used sonar machines to search the loch, scientists have never found real evidence that Nessie exists. All the supposed proof remains disputed or questionable.

Mystery that endures. Interest in the Loch Ness Monster comes and goes over the years, but people still visit the lake hoping to catch a glimpse of one of the world's most famous cryptids.
