Named after a unicorn. Monoceros means 'one horn' in Greek, and the constellation is supposed to look like a mythical unicorn. A cartographer named Petrus Plancius created this constellation in the 1600s.

Super faint in the sky. Even though Monoceros is a real constellation, it's quite dim and hard to spot without a telescope or binoculars. You need darker skies away from city lights to see it well.

Right on the equator. Monoceros sits on the celestial equator, which means it's positioned exactly between the northern and southern halves of the sky. This makes it visible from both hemispheres of Earth.

Surrounded by famous neighbors. The constellation is bordered by Orion, Gemini, and Canis Major, which are all much brighter and easier to spot. It fits in the middle of this crowded region of the night sky.
