Orange Juice

Squeezed from fruit. Orange juice is made by pressing or squeezing oranges to get out all the liquid inside. Different types of oranges, like navel oranges, valencia oranges, and blood oranges, make slightly different kinds of orange juice.

Pulp pieces included. The juicy little sacs inside an orange that hold the juice are called vesicles, or pulp in America and bits in Britain. When you drink orange juice, you might see bits floating in it, or the juice might be smooth if the pulp gets removed.

Juice changes with seasons. How much juice you get from an orange and how juicy it tastes depend on the type of orange, where it grew, and what time of year it was picked. Spring and winter oranges can have different amounts of juice inside.

Called OJ for short. In America, people often shorten orange juice to just OJ when they're talking about it or writing it down.
