Super sweet fruit. Persimmons are orange fruits that taste wonderfully sweet and creamy when they're ripe. They grow on trees in the genus Diospyros, which has many different species around the world.
Made in China. China produces about 80% of all the persimmons grown worldwide. The most popular type is called the kaki persimmon, which originally comes from China, Korea, and Japan.
Different varieties. There are many species of persimmon trees, and each type of persimmon has its own special taste and texture. Some are soft and mushy when ripe, while others stay firmer.
Timing matters. You have to wait for persimmons to fully ripen before eating them, or they can taste chalky and bitter. When they're ready, the fruit becomes super soft and delicious.
