Fix the pipes. Plumbers install and repair all the pipes in your house that carry drinking water to your taps and sinks, and also the pipes that drain dirty water away. They use special tools and their knowledge of how water flows to find and fix leaks and clogs.

Drinking water experts. Plumbers make sure the water that comes to your home is clean and safe to drink by installing special pipes and checking that everything is working properly. They understand how water pressure works and how to connect pipes so the water goes exactly where it needs to go.

Hot water hero. Many plumbers install and maintain water heaters that give you hot water for showers and washing dishes. They also fix problems when your water gets too hot, too cold, or runs out entirely.

Drain and sewage. Plumbers design and fix drainage systems that carry waste water away from your toilets, sinks, and showers to the sewage system. Without good drainage, bathrooms and kitchens would back up and become messy and unhealthy.

Building builders. Plumbers work on construction sites to install all the water and waste systems in new homes, schools, hospitals, and other buildings before people move in.
