Massive wingspan. Pteranodon had a wingspan of over 20 feet across, about as wide as a small airplane! That made it one of the largest flying reptiles ever to exist.
No teeth at all. Unlike many other prehistoric creatures, Pteranodon had no teeth in its mouth. Its name actually means 'wing without tooth' in Ancient Greek.
Found in North America. Pteranodon fossils have been discovered in what is now Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Alabama. Scientists have found over 1,200 Pteranodon specimens, more than any other flying reptile.
Lived in the Cretaceous. Pteranodon soared through the skies during the late Cretaceous period, millions of years before the last dinosaurs went extinct.
Ocean hunters. Pteranodon lived near the Western Interior Seaway, a shallow prehistoric ocean that covered much of North America, and likely hunted for fish.
