Giant long-necked herbivore. Shunosaurus was a massive sauropod dinosaur that ate plants all day long by reaching high into trees with its long neck and tail.
Lived in ancient China. This dinosaur lived in what is now Sichuan Province in China during the Late Jurassic period, about 161 to 157 million years ago.
Tail with a club. Unlike most other sauropods, Shunosaurus had a special bony club on the tip of its tail that it could use to defend itself from predators.
Name from history. The name Shunosaurus comes from 'Shu,' which is an ancient Chinese name for Sichuan Province where its fossils were discovered.
Four-legged giant. Shunosaurus walked on four thick, pillar-like legs that had to be incredibly strong to support its enormous body weight.
