The field general. The quarterback is the most important player on offense because they touch the ball on almost every play and decide what move the team should make next.

Throwing the football. The quarterback's main job is to throw forward passes to teammates who are running downfield, trying to move the ball closer to the end zone to score.

Behind the line. The quarterback stands directly behind the offensive line, which is the group of big, strong players whose job is to protect the QB while they're looking downfield.

Getting tackled hard. When an opponent tackles the quarterback before they can hand off or throw the ball, it's called a sack, and it can lose yards for the offense.

Calling plays. The quarterback gathers the team in a huddle and tells everyone exactly what play to run, making them kind of like the coach on the field.
