Shaping precious metal. Silversmiths use hammers, anvils, and special tools to bend and shape silver into jewelry, dishes, decorative items, and more. They heat the silver and carefully work it into the designs they imagine.

Similar to goldsmiths. Silversmiths and goldsmiths use almost the same techniques and training, though gold is much heavier and more expensive, so gold objects tend to be smaller and fancier.

Ancient organized craft. For hundreds of years, silversmiths joined guilds, which were groups that protected the craft and made sure the work was high quality. These guilds were like clubs that helped silversmiths learn and succeed.

Master of detail. Silversmiths create intricate patterns, smooth surfaces, and perfect joints by hand, combining strength and delicate artistry to make objects that last for generations.

Multiple special skills. Different silversmiths might specialize in jewelry, decorative silverware, religious vessels, or armor, each requiring their own set of expert techniques.
