Shaping with skill. Stonemasons carefully cut, shape, and fit stones together, sometimes using mortar (a cement-like paste) to hold them in place. This takes years of practice to master.

Ancient and enduring. Some of the world's most famous buildings, like Egyptian pyramids and medieval castles, were built by stonemasons. These stone structures have survived for thousands of years without falling apart.

Tools and technique. Stonemasons use chisels, hammers, and other tools to carve and shape stones into the right size and fit. Even today, many of these techniques are the same as they were centuries ago.

Mortar holds it together. Ancient lime mortar, made from lime and sand, helped stonemasons bind stones so they'd stick together and create strong walls. This invention was crucial for building structures that lasted.
