Cool Facts
Needs a ride home. Submersibles can't travel to the ocean on their own like submarines can. They need a bigger ship or platform to carry them out to sea and pick them back up when they're done exploring.
Built for deep dives. Submersibles are designed to go really, really deep, exploring places submarines might not reach. Scientists use them to study underwater mountains, trenches, and life in the darkest parts of the ocean.
Tiny but mighty. These vehicles are usually small, carrying just two or three people in a super strong cabin. The small size helps them survive the crushing pressure of the deep ocean.
Science submarines. Submersibles are perfect for research missions because they can stop, hover in one spot, and let scientists observe weird deep-sea creatures and rock formations up close.
