Cool Facts
Motorcycle race series. The AMA Supercross Championship is an American motorsports league where riders compete on specially designed off-road motorcycles. It's been running since 1974 and races happen from January through early May each year.
Stadium dirt tracks. Unlike regular motocross races held outdoors in open fields, supercross races take place on constructed dirt tracks built inside sports stadiums. This means fans can watch the action up close and comfortably from the stands.
Epic jumps and obstacles. Supercross tracks are packed with steep jumps, whoops (wavy bumps), and other challenging obstacles that riders must navigate at high speeds. These intense track designs make every race exciting and unpredictable.
More popular than motocross. Supercross became more popular than traditional off-road motocross racing in the United States by the late 1970s. The stadium setting made it easier for fans to attend and watch, turning it into a major spectator sport.
