Tokay Gecko

Night hunters. Tokay geckos are nocturnal, which means they sleep during the day and hunt for insects at night when most other animals are resting. Their big eyes help them see perfectly in the dark.

Tree dwellers. These geckos live in trees and forests high up in the branches, rarely coming down to the ground. They are arboreal, meaning they spend their whole lives among leaves and bark.

Sticky toe pads. Tokay geckos have special toe pads covered in millions of tiny hair-like structures that let them cling to smooth walls, branches, and even glass without any glue or suction cups. They can stick to almost anything and hang upside down!

Bright colors. Tokay geckos are usually bright gray or blue-green with red or orange spots, making them beautifully colorful reptiles. Their vibrant colors help them blend in with lichen and moss on trees.

Very loud calls. Male tokay geckos make loud, distinctive calls that sound like 'to-kay, to-kay,' which is actually where they got their name. These calls echo through the forest as they defend their territory.
