Cool Facts
Played underwater. Players dive down to the bottom of a pool and push a small puck along the floor toward the opposing team's goal. The sport is sometimes called Octopush in the United Kingdom.
Special equipment needed. Players use short sticks called pusher sticks (about 12 inches long) to move the puck, along with fins, a mask, and a snorkel so they can breathe at the surface between plays.
Limited contact allowed. While it is a contact sport, the rules keep things safe by limiting how much players can bump into each other. Everyone has to follow strict rules to protect each other while playing.
Quick breath breaks. Players must surface frequently to take breaths because they cannot actually breathe underwater. This makes the sport an exciting mix of speed, strategy, and physical fitness.
Teams and goals. Two teams compete against each other to maneuver the puck into the opposing team's goal at the bottom of the pool. It's like soccer or hockey, but under water.
