Massive river system. The Zambezi stretches 2,574 kilometers (1,599 miles) across Africa and drains water from an area of 1,390,000 square kilometers. That's a huge region, almost as big as half of all the land that feeds the Nile River.

Crosses six countries. The Zambezi flows through Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique before emptying into the Indian Ocean. It forms natural borders between several nations as it carves its way across the continent.

Eastward flow champion. The Zambezi is Africa's longest river that flows toward the east. Most of Africa's biggest rivers flow north or south, making the Zambezi special and unusual.

Victoria Falls spectacle. The Zambezi's most famous feature is Victoria Falls, one of the world's most breathtaking waterfalls. The river also creates other impressive falls like Chavuma Falls and Ngonye Falls along its journey.

Ocean's arrival. After traveling through six countries, the Zambezi finally reaches Mozambique and flows directly into the Indian Ocean. It's the largest African river pouring into the Indian Ocean.
